Miss Tunisia Quits Miss World Over Yashmak Rule
Malak Nemlaghi a 19 year old contestant from Tunisia was disqualified from Miss World after refusing to remove her yashmak for publicity photos. Organizers led by Julia Morley said contestants must appear publicly as a team. Nemlaghi had previously appeared in a swimsuit during a Tunisia qualifying round.

Ohio veterans may receive extra 175 monthly VA payment
Cleveland VA official Ralph E. Smith Jr. announced that disabled Ohio veterans potentially eligible for the Veterans Disability Compensation and Survivors Benefits Act of 1978 could gain an additional 175 dollars per month. The measure targets those with service connected loss and later nonservice connected loss of paired extremities, requiring a VA rating below 100 percent.

Doctor Warns Americans on Soviet Hospitals Overseas
Washington based surgeon Dr W Leonard Weyl, returning from Russia, urges travelers not to fall ill there.
