Fire kills man in fifth floor room at Sheraton Hotel

A fire on the fifth floor of the Columbus Sheraton Hotel killed John Stremfer, 40, of Norwalk Connecticut. The blaze prompted evacuation of more than 300 guests as flames forced the closure of floors five through six in the 20 story hotel.

Decline of OCSEA Membership Among City Workers

OCSEA membership among Ohio city workers has fallen from 75 in 1974 to about 22 now. Fireman and local OCSEA president Richard Striker cites poor communication from the state organization and waning perceived value as reasons for the drop.
