Assessments For Indian Creek May Get More Tangled
Huron County Commissioners approved a 33345 loan to pay off the contractor for the Indian Creek Drainage project. The move may deepen controversy as 65 farmers face new or adjusted assessments, with some already paid and others using bank loans at higher rates. The two year loan to a government agency carries 62 percent interest tax free, while private loans run 10 to 11 percent. Legal actions loom as three property owners appeal changes in the assessment formula, joined by chairman Robert Gray who faces higher dues. The case may go to Common Pleas Judge Robert W. Smith with potential appeals.
