Politics Hidden in Mother Goose Rhymes, Scholar Says
Chicago based history professor Nelson Diebel argues that many nursery rhymes carry political subtext. He links Little Miss Muffet to Mary Queen of Scots, Sing a Song of Sixpence to Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, and Hey Diddle Diddle to Queen Elizabeth I. He notes over 100 of more than 500 rhymes touch on politics and uses them in teaching.
