PROD Inc. releases a report alleging Frank Fitzsimmons and top Teamsters leaders illegally enrich themselves with millions from union funds. The public records compilation aims to spur investigations and drive reform within the nation’s largest union.
Ohio Attorney General William J. Brown plans to seek legislation requiring mileage to be recorded on auto titles during each transfer. He also called for a multi state effort by fellow attorneys general to combat odometer fraud. Brown has filed 11 lawsuits against dealers for rolling back odometers and expects more actions. He stressed that odometer readings are the only usage indicator for used cars.
In simultaneous ceremonies in Washington and Moscow President Ford and Leonid Brezhnev signed a five year treaty regulating nuclear explosions for peaceful purposes. The accord includes on site inspection provisions and was signed with Dobrynin in Washington and Stoessel in Moscow.

A 20 year old Meriden Connecticut man Michael Maslar was arrested in Lincoln Nebraska for driving the victim Harlan Anderson 56 of Grove City Pennsylvania’s car and using his ID. Anderson was found murdered north of Milan strapped to a tree with signs of strangulation. Maslar faces kidnapping and homicide charges with extradition planned.

Three year old Keri Ann Miller of Omaha Nebraska born with Hallerman Streiff syndrome underwent a six hour facial reconstruction at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia funded by the Variety Clubs. Surgeons Dr Linton A Whitaker and Dr Luis Schut led teams to retract the brain area expand the eye sockets and rebuild the nose to give her a normal appearance and improved psychological well being. The operation marks an early intervention to prevent long term self image issues as Keri returns to her bubbly self and her mother hopes she will not remember her differences.
