Norwalk parents urge return to after-Labor-Day calendar
More than half of Norwalk parents signed petitions calling for starting school after Labor Day. Carol A. Schnellinger reports 752 signatures, with signatures from St Marys and St Pauls boards and two city councilmen. She cites about 58 percent of 1,310 local parents. Opponents say an earlier start aids Cedar Point recruitment and youth employment. The district calendar, adopted to save fuel, began in the third week of August two years ago, with a three week winter recess and saved about $14,000 last winter.
