Norwalk Chamber Faces Tepid Fund Drive For Airport and Downtown Study

The Norwalk Chamber of Commerce reports slow fundraising for the Huron County Airport site development and the downtown Norwalk study. The airport drive has raised 20000 of a 40000 goal in six weeks, while the chamber’s 3600 share of a 6000 downtown survey has netted less than 200. Fundraisers paused as the Development Committee plans a meeting with the survey firm head to address questions.

Teacher Herb Rolsten retires after 37 years in Norwalk

Longtime craftsman Herb Rolsten receives a merit certificate from Dr. William B. Holman as he retires from teaching after 37 years in Norwalk. He taught shop to many city professionals and runs Herbert E. Rolsten Builder Co with his son James, while daughter Carolyn works in state bio research.

Courthouse Elevator Project Bids Sought

Huron County commissioners will advertise for courthouse elevator reconstruction. A new cab and automatic doors will be installed. Bids are due by noon June 23. Specifications available from architect Thurman J. Peabody.

Canton firm wins Huron County bridge contracts

Gunite Corp of Canton won the two bridge contracts in Huron County totaling 23302 dollars. The specifications named Rustinol and Blac-Clad coatings from R M Chemical Co. of Canton and were drafted by Gunite president Louis Rogovin. Urban Livengood, county engineer, said the county tests several paints and that county crews normally paint 15 to 20 bridges yearly.

Lyle C. Wilson, national columnist for United Press International and former UPI Washington manager, died today at Martin Memorial Hospital in Stuart Florida. In Portsmouth Ohio residents report a bright light moving southwest to northeast across the sky between 4:30 and 5:30 a.m. Johnson nominates Trowbridge as secretary of commerce, halting the planned merger of Commerce and Labor Departments.

Oglesby Withdraws Jury Trial Request in Norwalk Case

Irvin J. Oglesby 26 of 22 Grand Ave has withdrawn his jury trial request in a Norwalk crash case. A hearing is set in Huron County Common Pleas Court Thursday morning after witnesses identified a car at his residence as involved in the April 16 Fruen Street collision that injured Marvin Ebinger, 53 Fruen St.
