Downtown Ohio 61 reroute for Poppy Festival weekend

Mayor Wayne Goodsite announced detours around downtown as Ohio 61 is redirected starting Wednesday. Elm Street parking is banned through Monday while workers post signs and traffic follows a Pleasant Street Elm Street Woodlawn Avenue route to Main Street for the three day festival.

New London Woman Sues Over Garnishment and Seeks 100000

Mary Louise Perkins of New London sues Karnes Music Co. of Des Plaines and her employer The C E Ward Co. to block wage garnishment and obtain 100000 in damages. She claims the Circuit Court of Cook County lacked jurisdiction, the bill was paid, and Karnes Music harassed her at work and home, violating privacy. She seeks 50000 for mental anguish and 50000 in punitive damages.

Murder charge filed in rural Plymouth killing

George Hicks, 53, was charged with aggravated murder in the shooting of 74 year old Jonathon Weller. Hicks was captured by Huron County deputies and held without bond in Crawford County jail. A grand jury could be considered in about two weeks.

Presbyterians Discipline Ministers Denying Women Elders

The 187th General Assembly of the United Presbyterian Church of the U.S. disciplined ministers who refuse to ordain women elders. Wynn Kenyon of Pittsburgh was denied ordination for opposing women elders, while the church upholds the policy allowing women as lay elders since 1930 and teaching elders since 1956. Kenyon may leave the church after discussing options with like minded members.

Clergyman Sentenced in Kanawha Bomb Plot

Rev. Marvin Horan, Baptist preacher, is sentenced to three years in federal prison for his role in a plot to bomb school buildings during the Kanawha County textbooks protest.
