Weather data program aids EHOVE farmers in heat unit planning
EHOVE Joint Vocational School and farm management students monitor air and soil temperatures to provide weekly rainfall and heat unit data to extension offices in Huron and Erie counties. The project uses soil readings to guide planting, with estimations of corn maturity at 2,600 heat units and May planting guidance. The program includes Stokely Van Camp in Norwalk and EHOVE’s 105 acre school farm with future summer work by junior Jay Schaffer.
