The National Motor Vehicle Safety Advisory Council asks Transportation Secretary Volpe to add inflation nylon crash bags to federal safety standards. The bags would deploy from a crash sensor when a specified impact occurs to aid drivers not wearing safety belts.
The Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles sues Robert F. Kennedy’s campaign committee for 85000 dollars plus 7 percent interest claiming last June's contract covered hotel accommodations services and goods with no payment despite demands. Secretary Rogers told SEATO ministers the United States will defend the region amid Southeast Asia's peaceful evolution after the Vietnam War.
Charles Evers, newly elected mayor of Fayette Mississippi and Medgar Evers' brother, denounces Mississippi white officials for scandal over federal funds for blacks. He travels to Washington to secure funds while urging Negroes to vote and pursue political power. He warns violence will not aid the black cause.
Four people were shot two fatally as racial violence flared in Niles Michigan Newark and Freehold New Jersey Monday night. In Chicago bands of youths vandalized cars and threw rocks. In Newark blacks shouted it’s starting as a policeman killed a Negro teen drawing 1300 police and a curfew until dawn.
The Izaak Walton League of Ohio criticized Gov. Rhodes for appointing Jack Kinney of Ann Arbor as a consultant to the Ohio Water Pollution Control Commission. The league alleged Kinney is or was a paid consultant for the Ohio Manufacturers Association and accused him of helping keep water dirty.

City council tonight will consider a two hour on street parking limit aimed at curbing constant meter feeding by downtown workers and shoppers. Chamber linked to the measure through Edward Still with Fred Stein representing. a rain soaked 8 am rush sparked complaints and calls for action. The agenda also covers rezoning of Norwood Avenue 16 acre tract for apartments, Maplehurst eight acre site, a new ward councilman appointment, and emergency ordinances on salary increases and insurance contracts.
President Nixon and South Vietnam's Nguyen Van Thieu will meet on Midway Island for a few hours on June 8 to discuss the Vietnam war and a peaceful solution. The White House announced the plan after Thieu publicly requested a conference.
Police say two 18 year old suspects Russell Carroll of Clyde and Ray Revine of Sandusky were shot inside Mr Wigg s Department Store after attempting to load a handgun during a burglary. Both men were wounded in the chest and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital. They face breaking and entering charges.
Harold Christel of 179 Scottwood Ave plans two white frame brick veneer apartment buildings at West Main and Cortland, razing a house on the site. One building will hold six units and the other eight, built by Klingshire and Towner at an estimated cost of 148000 dollars.
Richard Tingler a Columbus native and former convict worked at Alvin Hoffman’s cotton farm in Dill City Oklahoma. He expressed remorse as he was led away after arrest for six murders in Ohio. Hoffman described Tingler as like family and said he slept in an extra room with his wife and five children. Tingler used the alias Don Williams and vanished briefly before being found.
Lawson Milk Co of Cuyahoga Falls has acquired the L & K motel and restaurant chain based in Marion. The L & K properties include a Norwalk southside motel and restaurant, with L & K comprising 10 motels and 43 restaurants. The chain will operate autonomously within the Lawson complex.
Lawson Milk a Consolidated Foods unit in Chicago operates 660 food stores and 39 Manners' Big Boy Restaurants. It plans an expansion with options on 30 locations, three new restaurants under construction and five more to start this year. Cleo R Ludwig and Robert E Kibbey founders of L & K will remain managing partners in the merger.
Huron County Commissioners reconsider a hospitalization plan for county employees after receiving an attorney general opinion. The opinion states that annual premiums over $2000 require competitive bidding and that most county employees would qualify, except non teaching school board employees who are covered separately by law.
Apollo 10 and astronauts Thomas Stafford Eugene Cernan and John Young near a lunar orbit loop after a near flawless flight. Ground control tentatively cancels a midcourse correction and confirms a 70 mile high moon orbit just above plan as the crew awoke to Earth a distant blue marble 177000 miles away.
Norwalk police announce Safety Town registration for children entering kindergarten in the fall. In person only at the police station, May 25 through June 6. Classes run June 23 to August 1 at League Street School. The program teaches traffic safety and meeting police and fire personnel.
