Prom Night Costs Sweep Five High Schools

About 1,064 students at five area high schools attended proms and related events with total spend running in the thousands. Institutions charged modest amounts for admission while extra costs covered gowns, tuxedos, decorations, meals, and postparty activities. Local banks underwrote a movie and a 3 hour Sandusky boat cruise as part of the weekend festivities.

Prom Chaperones Injured In Route 250 Crash Near Norwalk

Five people, four chaperones for Norwalk High School prom, were injured in a 2:15 a.m. crash on Route 250 north of Norwalk. The Leber vehicle rear-ended the Packard car, injuring Neel Fauber and packard couple. Leber charged with drunken driving. Leber received three days in jail, $200 fine, three year license suspension.

Four Willard Teens Injured When Car Slams Pole in Norwalk

Early Sunday a Willard vehicle struck a utility pole at 154 W Main St injuring four youths. Driver Douglas H. Striker 18 cited for failure to drive on the right. Passengers Terry L. Holden 17 Yvonne E. Ruckman 18 and Barbara M. Grama 16 hospitalized then released.

Clyde Wins $1 Million Federal Water Grant

Clyde, a 5000 resident city in Sandusky County, won a $1.171 million federal grant from HUD to upgrade its water system. The plan funds a 796 million gallon underground reservoir, a 500 thousand gallon storage tank, and modernization of the treatment plant, with work to start after confirmation.

Injector test blamed for shed fire in Norwalk

Norwalk firemen said Edward Jackson tested a fuel injector in a metal utility shed when a spark ignited spilled gasoline. The fire was extinguished before firefighters arrived. the alarm came in at 8 24 p.m.

Teens Fall Sick After Mysterious Pill Incident At Fair

At the Santa Clara County fairgrounds 25 youths required emergency care after taking orange pills handed by a masked couple described as hog man and hog woman. Police found thousands of capsules scattered but offered no suspects. The pills were believed to contain amphetamines.

Nixon Maintains Poll Lead Over Aspirants

The Gallup poll shows Nixon with highly favorable ratings at 28 percent, leading Humphrey 26 percent and Kennedy 24 percent, Rockefeller 23 percent, and McCarthy 19 percent. Johnson previously topped the 1964 May results with 59 percent, while Nixon trails his 1960 high of 41 percent.
