Mapleton Poised To Defend Firelands Track Title

Mapleton, defending Firelands Conference champion, is favored as eight schools compete at Hillsdale High School. Hillsdale edged last year’s champion by seven, while southern division teams lead current marks with six of seven records set by Mapleton Hillsdale or Black River. Norwalk St Paul standout Dave Wasiniak broke the pole vault last year at 12-6, with 1969 teammate Steve Collins seen as a strong threat. Milan still holds several old records including Jim Kluding’s 1966 147-11 discus mark.
