Planning Commission Voting Role Question for Huron County
Huron County Commissioners are under study to determine if their dual status on the Regional Planning Commission poses a conflict. Commissioner Maurice B. Smith questions compatibility with voting on annexations and subdivisions while serving on the planning board. Prosecutor William W. Owens notes a 1965 AG opinion and a later state-law change allow current public officials to hold multiple posts, and suggests ex officio non voting status for better liaison. Planning Director C B Roscoe contemplates keeping commissioners as non voting ex officio members for communication, noting a by laws change would be required. Smith urges non voting ex officio status, citing conflict concerns and his lack of attendance to avoid conflicts of interest.
