Arts Council Approved in Ohio to Promote Rural Culture
Gov. James A. Rhodes is expected to swiftly back a 15 member Ohio Arts Council approved unanimously by the Senate. The panel would be appointed by the governor to foster arts development statewide, moving cultural activity from cities to rural areas and seeking private support for underwritten cultural exchanges. The measure lacks a specific appropriation but could hire staff. members would serve without pay. The same Senate session passed a bill allowing Ohio Supreme Court judges to elect their own chief justice and extended required experience to 10 years, while killing an eight year term extension. The House sent bills on parking brake conformity marriage rights for ministers statewide and juvenile delinquency programs, and allowed life insurance agents to incorporate. A defeated provision would have banned driving unregistered vehicles, risking criminal charges for borrowers of such cars.
