Deputy Postmaster General William F. Bolger says a price increase is likely in the next fiscal year beginning October with talks of two or three cent raises. He notes first class letters remain the financial backbone despite a 13 cent rate and a slight drop in volume.
Capt Walter R Shafer was found blameless in the Belknap John F Kennedy collision. The court martial ruled a captain is not automatically responsible when a disaster occurs at sea. Eight crewmen died in the Nov 22 collision off the Italian coast and Belknap required $109 million in repairs in Philadelphia.
President Ford issued a declaration to free small businesses from unnecessary government regulation and proposed legislation to require congressional action and broad regulatory reform.
Rep. Clarence J. Brown of Ohio told UPI that the nation is no more prepared to receive tornado warnings now than two years ago after Xenia was leveled. He asked the National Weather Service to explain slow progress on installing a radio warning system.

Huron County Prosecutor William W. Owens resigns effective midnight May 26 and urges his assistant Richard Hauser to succeed him. Owens will move to private practice. Hauser seeks the Democratic nomination while opponent Michael Fegen attacks the move as a breach of public trust.
The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team will hold an exhibition at 7 tonight in the Norwalk Junior High gym. Sponsored by the Huron County Department of Special Education, donations will be accepted at the door for the Special Olympics program. The Norwalk Junior Achievement banquet also at 7 tonight at EHOVE Joint Vocational School.
