Pope Paul VI appeals for peace at Fatima crowd

Pope Paul VI addressed about two million pilgrims at Fatima Portugal urging world peace and noting humanity's hunger and conflict. He called the gathering the 50th anniversary of Fatima and praised the Portuguese people for braving rain to see the pope in Portugal. Tax Increase May Be Higher Than Expected

Officials say Vietnam war costs for 1968 rose by at least five billion dollars above the January budget plus a four to five percent drop in corporate profits. Car Strikes Boy Near St Marys School

A nine year old boy walking to St Marys School was struck on League Street near St Marys Church. Robert Derby of 32 Newton St was hospitalized at Fisher Titus with contusions and abrasions in fairly good condition. Louise Marie Green of 5 Morley Drive faced no charges. Police noted the boy stepped into the road with little time to react.
