Bill Russell leads the world champion Celtics off the plane at Logan Airport in Boston after defeating the Lakers 108 to 106 in game seven to claim their 11th NBA championship in 13 years.
John A. Shilling, a former sailor on the Pueblo, expresses pleasure and surprise that no military action will be taken against the crew. He notes the quick verdict and says Cmdr. Lloyd M. Bucher and Lt. Stephen R. Harris were not singled out for punishment, though they did not deserve punishment in his view.
Linn dale Ohio Mayor Armand Masten announced his resignation to dedicate his life to a peace memorial after his son Army Sgt Armand D Masten 21 was killed in Vietnam when his jeep hit a mine. The son planned to return home but extended service for five months for an earlier discharge.
In Youngstown residents vote 12 mill operating levy approval by a 3 to 2 margin. Abe Harshman, president of the School Board, calls it a victory for all citizens as rejection would have jeopardized school reopening next September amid flawed tax rules.
Vice President Spiro Agnew, at a Republican event at Governor Reagan's residence, was told by an 83 year old palm reader from San Francisco that he would be married twice more. Agnew and his wife appeared startled as the reader spoke.
Mrs Spiro T Agnew told reporters at Gov Reagan's home that four children would be spanked if involved in student protests. She dismissed a political generation gap but warned she would paddle any child who joined unrest.

South Central and Western Reserve School levies passed Tuesday ensuring uninterrupted operation of schools in the two districts. A 14 mill proposal in the New London District was rejected by more than two to one. Berlin Milan and Willard levies failed while Plymouth District bond issue was defeated. A bond issue and tax levy for a new Lorain County Joint Vocational School were approved. A small portion of Clarksfield Township in Huron County lies in the new service area. South Central won 663 to 407, Western Reserve 414 to 388. Officials warned schools would close without the levies. Precincts Greenwich and Ripley narrowly carried. Bronson Hartland Wakeman rejected Western Reserve. Local coverage notes precinct tables on Page three. Carl Walter credited a citizens committee for the levy support after door-to-door efforts.
Norwalk voters chose William H. Giles Robert B Fish and Paul W Robinson for three councilman at large seats while Republican David Becker defeated G Thomas Hutton to seek the second ward seat in the fall. Turnout was light with 216 Democratic ballots and 78 Republican ballots.
The Norwalk City Council narrowly approves a 51 000 municipal pay raise for all city workers by a 3-2 vote, effective June 1. Critics warn the increase risks a general fund deficit and future negotiations while supporters say the raise mirrors the earlier raise and avoids cash shortfalls.
Senator Richard B. Russell of Georgia disclosed that cobalt therapy since March 21 has effectively eradicated a malignant tumor from his left lung. The 71 year old, a longtime Senate figure, cautioned he is not cured and still battles emphysema. He noted five recent family cancer deaths.
A Senate antitrust subcommittee opens hearings on arbitrary insurance cancellations. Reports describe agents inspecting closets to gauge household behavior and skepticism about why customers face nonrenewal. Clare claims include a clergyman barred over local disputes and others citing drinking or personal habits. Striking Superior Coach workers in Norwalk plan a 10 a.m. meeting at the Park and Recreation Center.
