Wynegar’s clutch hit lifts Twins past Indians in 10th
Butch Wynegar batted left and right as he delivered a game tying homer off Rick Waits in the eighth and Mike Cubbage’s sacrifice fly in the 10th gave Minnesota a 4-3 win over Cleveland. Lyman Bostock started the 10th with a single, stole second, and set up the winning run. Rod Carew and Bostock had started the game with a 2-0 lead before Cleveland tied it in the seventh on Paul Dade’s sacrifice fly and other hits. Cleveland manager Frank Robinson lamented scoring woes after a 13th loss in 20 games.

Bengals Boost Line With First Round Picks
Cincinnati Bengals coach Bill Johnson hailed the draft as a success after the club used three first round choices to upgrade the defensive line and tight end. Eddie Edwards and Wilson Whitley were added on defense while Michigan State tight end Michael Cobb joined to bolster the position. Ohio State fullback Pete Johnson was picked in the second round to strengthen blocking and goal line duties. Whitley expressed disappointment at not going earlier, while GM Paul Brown praised the acquisitions.
