The blue caboose on Pleasant Street remains on a siding as city officials cancel a crane lift citing a too small county crane. A private crane may be arranged for next Saturday and the caboose could become a park plaything at McGuan Park if the railroad relinquishes it.
President Nixon pledged not to resign and urged moving past Watergate to focus on peace and prosperity. He spoke to 14,000 Republicans at Phoenix Coliseum amid 1,500 demonstrators calling for his ouster, then flew to Spokane for Expo 74 events.
Norwalk police confiscated bicycles from three teenagers on Friday. None of the bikes had license tags and one lacked lights required by the city bicycle ordinance. Parents signed forms allowing police to hold the bicycles for one week.

U S automakers report 702 338 cars sold in April 27 4 per cent above January and 7 5 per cent higher than March. The gain reflects spring demand and renewed interest in larger cars. Ford vice president John B Naughton says buyers are returning to larger models alongside small cars.
Republican candidate David L. Martin visits Norwalk for a brief campaign stop then Willard ahead of Tuesday’s primary. The Newark blind lawyer proposes streamlining Congress with limited committee power and quick bill passage, and accuses incumbent John Ashbrook of poor attendance. He plans door to door campaigning and district focus if elected.
UPI reports Century Plaza Hotel refused a nude male popping from a five foot cake at Playgirl magazine's first anniversary in Los Angeles. Publisher Douglas Lambert said he learned of the ban on the day of the event and questioned whether a female reveal would have faced the same objection.
The Symbionese Liberation Army did not release Patricia Hearst by the Friday midnight deadline set by Hearst Corp. for her release. The $4 million in free food for the needy, placed in escrow on April 2 to run the People In Need program, reverted to the corporation.
A high American official reports that Israel and Syria are within negotiating range on troop disengagement in the Golan Heights with the main dispute over withdrawal depth. He notes progress on all other issues and expects a possible exchange of war prisoners as part of any disengagement agreement.
UPI reports Senator Edward Gurney faced questions about his recent indictment and pushed a seat cushion into the face of Miami reporter Brian Ross outside an Orlando hotel. The incident occurred as Gurney spoke on tourism and the Florida economy amid grand jury tensions.
A 10 a.m. Monday strike deadline was set at General Motors New Departure-Hyatt Bearings Division in Sandusky Ohio after failure to negotiate a local pact to supplement the national GM contract agreed last November. UAW officials said a walkout could affect 1,800 members.
Thirteen local ballot questions appear in Huron County with Christie Lane School facing a new two tenths mill levy for ten years. The measure aims to cover rising operating costs for the school and its workshops. Other issues include Western Reserve High additions funded by a 378000 bond and South Central School Districts replacing a ten mill levy with an “additional” levy. Hartland Township proposes a one mill levy for trash collection four times yearly.
