Village Won't Raise Police Chief's Wage
Greenwich council approved an emergency ordinance raising the night patrolmen to 7500 dollars a year for at least 48 hours weekly, but rejected raising Chief Richard Thompson's salary. An April 5 measure to raise the chief and patrolmen failed to receive a second. If passed, Thompson would have earned 7532 dollars and patrolmen 6963 dollars. The council also discussed electric rate hikes to cover fuel costs from Ohio Power, noting rates haven't risen since 1922. A public hearing is set for June 4 on a zoning variance for lot 481 Main Street. Additional actions included changing meeting nights to Tuesday, hiring a surveyor for Railroad Street property lines, and resignations and parking considerations. Mayor Patton reported 193 dollars in mayor's court, and bills totaling 2506 dollars were approved.
