Forty three of fifty seven precincts will be open Tuesday with several voters reassigned to alternate locations due to partial precinct involvement. Bronson, Hartland, and Richland County areas adjust polling sites. liquor sales rules also noted for election day.
The Dayton Knights beat the Columbus Buda 92 to 77 in Columbus. Both squads are composed of former drug addicts and the game drew about 120 spectators with Dr. Alan E. Zimmer praising it as rehabilitation.
Voters in at least 127 districts where tax levies failed are set to reconsider on Tuesday in a statewide primary with no statewide issues or candidates. Officials expect only 20 to 30 percent turnout in the off year vote.
Forecast calls for considerable morning cloudiness then partial clearing and a cool day with highs in the low 50s. Tonight will be clearing and cold with frost possible and lows in the upper 20s to low 30s. Tuesday brings sun and warmth with highs around the 50s and a 10 percent or less chance of rain. In Norwalk 4,665 registered voters face a competitive mayoral race with three Republican hopefuls and a two-way Democratic contest, plus a charter commission vote and 16 precincts. Bellevue sees five Democrats and two Republicans vying for mayor, with Willard district bond and several district tax levies on ballots.
Harold Finch a Republican endorsed Councilman Domenic Coletta for mayor of Norwalk this weekend. He prepared a taped radio advertisement in support of Coletta amid rumors he might back him if he did not run again.
Militant antiwar demonstrators failed to shut down the government as police backed by Army troops and Marines used tear gas and arrests in the thousands. Protesters blocked main bridges into D C and key bottlenecks while roughly 2000 or more were under arrest by nine in the morning and traffic largely resumed.
An Ohio Education Association spokesman calls the Monroeville School Board action to not renew two high school teachers contracts foolish. The DEA says no reasons were given, though state law does not require it, as teachers seek counsel and new jobs.
A prisoner being returned to the Huron County Jail slugged Lt. Leslie Harper and fled on foot before being recaptured at his parents’ West Elm Street home. William H. Kuhlman, 1962 W. Elm Sr., had been sentenced to a one to 15 year term in the Ohio Reformatory and was returned to the jail by 10 45. Norwalk police aided in the arrest. Harper was not seriously hurt.
Charles Bartow, 63, of Norwalk is in serious condition at Riverside Methodist Hospital after a two-vehicle crash near Shelby at 9 15 a m. His truck was struck by Clyde Justice, 43, of Plymouth, as Bartow attempted to cross Route 96 at Plymouth Spring Mill Road. Justice was treated at Shelby hospital. no citations were issued.
He urged today's youth to persist in America, crediting his mother for support and detailing a Collier coaching anecdote. Green, now assistant vice provost at Case Western Reserve University, praised effort and faith in personal improvement.
