Norwalk residents must submit guesses for the date of an 80 degree high by 6 p m Thursday with prizes of 10 soft drink value and 10 lemonade concentrates for the closest date and second place ice cream. Reflector office has entry blanks and a few left. Unemployment compensation claims in Norwalk for the week ending March 27 totaled 298 with 328 prior week.

A 22 year old Greenwich woman and her 41 year old aunt died in a violent car train crash at the Main Street crossing of the New York Central tracks. Mrs Alberta Jean Mills died en route to Willard hospital in a Myers Funeral Home ambulance after the collision. Mrs June Ellen Mack was killed instantly after being thrown from the car. The driver, Mrs Mills, faced west on Main while the train from Indianapolis to Cleveland neared. engineer Daniel Steiger said he could not stop in time.
Fire gutted the Norwalk residence of Mr and Mrs Joe E Dudley at 243 West Main. The Dudleys and their daughter Karen plus Dr and Mrs Charles Peasley were left homeless. An insurance adjuster doubted salvageable losses, with clothing and belongings lost. a mother cat and four kittens perished in the basement. Fire crews were alerted at 12 10 pm Tuesday by Charles Argyle after a passerby reported smoke.
Norwalk Planning and Zoning Commission will draft a recommendation for city council on Richard Pflieger’s request to rezone four acres at 240 Woodlawn from residential to commercial for a travel trailer sales use. About 20 attended the public hearing with neighbors opposing the change citing property value concerns.
Attorney Robert Wiedemann challenged City Ordinance 608 in Common Pleas Court this morning arguing indefiniteness. Judge Robert J. Vetter delayed ruling and ordered oral argument prep, while noting the affidavit from two N. West St. residents and Kirbawy’s unlicensed use of property at 54 N. West St. contains concerns about stored second hand items and vehicles.
Mayor Louis G. Frey reports from Washington, D C, where he attends a National League of Cities conference to explore federal program applicability to Orwalk. He expects talks with Senator Stephen M. Young and Congressman Charles A. Mosher and notes a prior meeting with Congressman Robert Sweeney.
