Civil Service Tests Planned for City Departments

The Norwalk Board of Control Mayor Harold Finch and Service Director Morley Price announced civil service examinations will be held in May for new police sergeant and fire department assistant battalion chief positions plus patrolmen firemen sewage disposal plant operators and filtration plant operators. The new salaries are $6750 vs $6500 for regular roles.

Man in Norwalk slips off motorcycle in accident

A Norwalk man Kenneth Plue aged 20 was treated for cuts and bruises after slipping off the back of a motorcycle driven by Ronald Ray Grinold 20 of Sandusky. Grinold said he was leaving a driveway on Townsend Avenue when Plue lost balance and fell. A rural Milan man suffered a hurt right arm when his car hit a tree on Spring Street and Wayne Albert Smith 39 Milan was cited for failure to drive on the right.

Stone prompts ticket after loose stone hits car windshield

A loose stone from a truck on U.S. 224 west of Greenwich led to a citation for driver Louie H. Stackhouse 57 Ashland. The stone shattered a windshield but no injuries occurred to Tucker L. South 20 Goshen Ind. Stackhouse was cited for insecure load.

Norwalk Builds 800 Pound Cement Turtle At Memorial Lake Park

Norwalk officials and Jaycees unveil an 800 pound yellow cement turtle at Memorial Lake Park off Old State Road. The project, two years in the making, adds a caterpillar climbing bar and merry go round with plans for fencing and more equipment if well received. The turtle, funded largely by the Jaycees wives Bicycle Raffle, joins other park residents as preparations continue for a May park opening.

Rites for D H Shepler set for Tuesday

Norwalk insurance agent D H Shepler 60 a longtime Motorist’s Mutual and Businessman’s Insurance figure died Friday at Sandusky Memorial Hospital after a lingering illness. Born April 21 1906 in Kingston he lived in Norwalk 25 years and will be buried in Oakdale Cemetery Marysville. He is survived by wife Helen daughter Connie Fischer granddaughter three brothers Virgil Arden and Lloyd. Funeral services are planned 1 30 p m Tuesday at Heaston Hile Funeral Home with two ministers officiating. Friends may call Sunday and Monday.
