A Cleveland bus driver, violating company rules by carrying a gun, shot and seriously wounded a man who allegedly tried to rob him Thursday night. The suspect, Albert Garner, 27, remained in critical condition with wounds to his right forearm hip and chest.
Tran Van Dinh the Saigon Post Washington bureau chief told a Cleveland Rotary Club that Viet Nam's conflict could end within a year if world focus shifts to social and economic issues. He warned further US troop buildup would strain the economy but urged keeping existing troops to avoid political failure. In Jakarta, Indonesia's military government shut down the Communist New China News Agency offices and expelled Red Chinese journalists.
The Army continues plans to avoid drafting students but readies for the contingency. A Selective Service spokesman says the force is preparing for the worst and hoping for the best.

Air Force scientists investigate a surge of unidentified flying object reports after more than 200 witnesses nationwide claim sightings since Sunday. A Bangor man said he fired on a 60 foot long glowing object, then police noted his distraught condition. Authorities linked the spate to Midwest sightings, including Michigan’s Ann Arbor area, as Dr. H Allen Hynek of Northwestern unpacks the case for Blue Book. The phenomena were reported near Trinidad Colorado close to a large United States defense post.
UPI reports unidentified flying objects sighted late Thursday and early today in Toledo and nearby Secor Park. Deputies described a red glow, round shape about the size of a car at 800 to 1,000 feet. Sightings also reported near Upper Sandusky by farmer Everett Will, who saw a top or upside down Christmas tree shaped craft with lights on its edges.
