Plane Struck by Flock After Takeoff in Nurenberg

A Lufthansa twin engine Boeing 737 with 25 aboard struck a flock of crows seconds after liftoff in Nurenberg. Two birds were sucked into one engine causing it to fail. The pilot redirected and landed safely using the remaining engine.

Bright Aurora Borealis Lights Up Northeast Sky

A vivid display of northern lights, the brightest in over 25 years, stretched across a 200 mile radius from New York City with sightings reported from New England to Louisiana. The Windsor Locks weather bureau described pulsating sheets of blue green and rose, calling the southern view unusual and spurring hundreds of calls to police and media.

Train Derails After Engine Hits Car At Crossing In Norwalk

Six Norfolk and Western cars derailed in Norwalk this morning when the locomotive struck a stalled automobile at a crossing. A local woman escaped unharmed just before impact. The car suffered heavy damage but was not a total loss as residents faced brief delays at crossings.

Edward Mathis aged about 27 from suburban New Boston was shot dead at his home late Sunday. Police charged neighbor Robert Williams with first degree manslaughter.

Edith Joanne Baker born in Norwalk on June 6 1941 also known as Joanne Reno is the subject of a sheriff issued wanted poster for jumping bond on a theft charge.
