Congress Presses For Tax Cuts In Social Security Tax Rise
In Washington, Republicans and Democrats push for partial relief from rising Social Security taxes. House leaders threaten to draft their own proposal if the White House does not offer one. Proposals would shift some tax financing from payrolls to general revenues to curb inflation and spur hiring, while keeping Social Security funded since 1935.
