West Baking settles strike with new three year contract
West Baking Co employees voted 62 to 2 to ratify a three year contract ending a nearly two month strike. Wages rise 20 to 23 cents first year and 22 to 54 cents second year, with overtime after eight hours and a shift differential from April 29. Medical and life insurance improve. negotiations reopen after two years. Local 377 president Frank Scalf said the union and company are in complete agreement.

Lawyers duel ends in gunfight outside Mexican court
In Guadalajara a courtroom dispute escalated to a street gunfight. Lawyer Antonio Ayala de Landeros was killed and Teodoro Ochoa Quinones was seriously injured. An unidentified woman was wounded. Authorities say the pair challenged each other to a duel after a heated courtroom exchange.

Cleveland stations may skip Sunday gasoline sales
Cleveland area service stations likely will not open Sunday despite President Nixon signaling resumption of Sunday gas sales. The shortage of gasoline makes Sunday openings impractical for many dealers. James Cresente of the Northern Ohio Petroleum Retailers Association said they will open Sundays if the product is available. Sohio declined comment, planning to decide its Sunday sales plan today.

Radiation machine kills patient after malfunction at hospital
A 65 year old cancer patient from Brockton, widow of nine, died when a cobalt therapy couch rose and pinned her on a treatment chair at Tufts New England Medical Center. Officials said no radiation was emitted during the incident and the fail-safe failed. The hospital cited operator error and a broken safety device.
