Two offshore rigs released crude oil and gas into the Gulf off Louisiana amid bad weather. Coast Guard reported oil slicks up to 21 miles long and 2 miles wide near one well as Red Adair and crew prepared another attempt to reach the sites.
An American armored column and allied forces pushed into the northwest Saigon area to blunt a Communist drive, in what observers called the largest operation of the Vietnam War. The action involved thousands from four U S divisions and several South Vietnamese units against an estimated 40 000 enemy troops.

Richard Rench manager of Newton Terrace Apartments filed charges against Charles Fisher 23 of rural Norwalk alleging reckless operation of a motorcycle. Rench also filed charges against Michael Ryan 23 of 35 Marion Drive for disturbing the peace linked to the same Saturday night incident.
An armed robbery occurred at 3 a.m. at the Bonded Oil Co gas station on Whittlesey Ave and League St. Attendant William McConnell describes the suspect as a 5 ft 7 in Black man, 160 pounds, with a mustache and beard, wearing a black silk scarf and dark coat. About $34 in ones and fives were taken.
