President Nixon told business executives that resigning would be an easy cop out and would destroy the presidency. He said the Watergate charges are totally false and, after answering 14 questions in a nationally televised session, he has no intention of quitting the White House.
News from Cincinnati and surrounding areas reports US Senator Charles Percy avoiding a direct comment on President Nixon's quip at a Chicago Executives Club session. Nixon praised Percys abilities while noting his presidential prospects as Percy addressed a Cincinnati Council on World Affairs event.
First Lady Pat Nixon drew the crowd at Brazilian President Geisel’s inauguration, arriving late after a traffic jam and receiving warm applause. She met Geisel for 10 minutes, invited him to visit the United States, and spoke with Latin American leaders at a reception before a Nashville birthday gala.
The FBI said it is probing the suspected abduction of a south St. Paul banker's wife who disappeared from their Line Lakes home since Friday. The banker Gunar Krinholm of Driver's State Bank received a call from a man claiming, We have your wife, deliver all the money you can to a station.
Government spokesman says Japan will give 3 million dollars to the Philippines as thanks for aiding in locating World War II straggler Hiroo Onoda. Chief Secretary Susumu Nikaido announced a special envoy will visit Manila to deliver the donation. Onoda surrendered March 10 after 29 years in Lubang Island jungles and is now in Tokyo for checkups.
Chicago police found a rooster dead on a North Side porch after a three month feeding with arsenic and lead by Laszlo Szendroi, a biology teacher who said the mix was part of an experiment. The bird’s neck was broken and its feathers rumpled as authorities concluded the search.

He cited Germany’s 1920s collapse and near disaster in France, urging painful solutions such as tighter money control and possibly higher taxes to curb rising wages and prices.
Washington reports the Pentagon worries about high ROTC costs at colleges with enrollments under 15 seniors. Cost per cadet runs 16 000 to 22 000 dollars, three times the academy cadet cost, with schools over 50 cadets costing about 8 000. For service academies the average is 69 000 per cadet.

Three inmates at Walton Prison in Liverpool were punished after running around the prison exercise ground in only socks and shoes. They lost seven days of time off for good behavior and were fined 66 cents each.
Maryland National Guard and Army reject calls to use helicopters to drive off a roost of about 10 million birds in Frederick County. Officials warn aircraft could be sucked into engines or propellers and crash, and birds will return.
