Eight Teens Die In Ohio Road Tragedy Near Celina

Eight Minster teens en route to a dance were killed when struck by a car on Ft Recovery Minster Rd ten miles south of Celina Ohio. Five others were injured. Scott Westerheide 15 later died at St Rita s Lima. The caravan included about 50 teenagers in nine cars.

Never Too Old To Become Girl Scout At 90

Mrs. Laura Shenk Huber celebrated her 90th birthday by becoming an honorary Girl Scout during Girl Scout Week. Junior Troop 174 and Brownie Troop 10 attended Mass at St. Mary Church and presented her a Girl Scout pin and corsage. She is mother to The Rev Bertrand Pry neding and The Rev Joseph Shenk, formerly from Delphos, Ohio, and taught for many years.

Ice Storm Paralyzes Wisconsin and Michigan

United Press International reports thousands faced candlelight and hand milking as an ice storm toppled power lines in Wisconsin and Michigan. About 200 National Guardsmen controlled blocked roads in Washington County Wisconsin. Dairy farmers dumped unrefrigerated milk and health officials warned of carbon monoxide poisoning from makeshift heaters.

Malpractice suit filed against estate of Dr Alexander Kimmel

In Norwalk a suit in Huron County Common Pleas Court targets the estate of Dr Alexander Kimmel who died January 25. Charles and Mary Burleigh claim he treated Charles for a workplace injury in 1973 and underwent a hemiorrhophy surgery the next day. They allege negligence in nerve handling caused permanent disability and seek medical and related damages with a jury trial requested.

Gilligan Won't Run for U S Senate in 1976

Former Ohio governor John J. Gilligan announced he will not seek the Democratic nomination for the 1976 U S Senate race. He will stay active in state and national government work and urged no candidate endorsements, leaving a Cleveland field including Howard Metzenbaum James Stanton and James Nolan. Taft Jr holds the seat.

Chief Hilson Returns to Work Six Hours a Day After Heart Attack

Police Chief Lawrence C. Hilson resumes duties after a three month absence due to a heart attack. He will undergo bypass surgery April 8 at the Cleveland Clinic and work six hours daily while easing back, wearing a mask in cold weather and focusing on light tasks.
