Richard Speck Admits to Killing Nurses in Prison Interview
Richard Speck told Chicago Sun-Times columnist Bob Greene that he stabbed and choked seven of eight nurses and killed the eighth with an accomplice described as an effeminate homosexual. He spoke at Stateville Prison, where he serves a life term, in a confession that aligns with past testimony yet contradicts the sole survivor Corazon Amarao and police records. Speck recounted the 1966 Chicago townhouse killings, claimed heroin and whiskey impaired him, and said he killed the others while his partner killed one. He denied naming the accomplice, saying what they don’t know cannot be prosecuted. Police maintain they will not reopen the case without a new body. Amarao testified to one attacker, Speck, at the time. Speck remains eligible for parole hearings, with a defiant message to the board from last year.
