Mrs Madge Earl of North Fairfield was appointed Clerk of the Huron County Board of Elections replacing Mrs Betty Cunningham who resigned due to ill health. The Board awarded contracts for four state amendments publication and for election supplies to Heer Printing Co Columbus and Darby Printing Co Norwalk.

Atlas-Centaur rocket explodes wrecking launch pad at Cape Kennedy

Debris strewed the pad after an Atlas-Centaur rocket lost two engines two seconds after lift off and crashed to the pad creating a 200 feet high fire ball. Damage survey teams planned today to inspect the site.

Firecracker Incident Shocks Norwalk High Students

A loud blast at Norwalk High School Tuesday morning involved a miniature firecracker attached to a locker. Principal James Ross seized several firecrackers from students who claimed ignorance of their purpose. Police delivered the items to Prosecutor Bernard F. Freeman, who deemed them dangerous and illegal. He directed the seller Norwalk Music Center and Hobby Shop to discard the display items or face charges. Store officials later removed the remaining firecrackers from a window display and pledged disposal.
