Ohio university leaders propose tuition free first two years
In Athens Ohio on Friday the Missions Committee of the Ohio Citizens Task Force of Higher Education reviewed a proposal for tuition free higher education for all young Ohioans during the first two college years. The plan, submitted by Ohio University executive vice president Taylor Culbert for hospitalized OU president Claude R Sowle, estimates a $70 million cost with a $12 million reduction to the Ohio Instructional Grant program.

UPI reports U.S. automakers produced 962,286 cars in February, down 34.3 percent from a year earlier and the worst February since 1970 as big cars faced cuts. For Jan–Feb 1974 output fell 32.5 percent to 1,196,563, with only 1970 lower in 12 years, vs 1,772,143 in 1973.
