Shell Oil Co officials announced an immediate two cent per gallon hike on all three gasoline types. Aviation fuel rises one cent per gallon while kerosene, premium diesel, furnace oil and diesel fuel go up 2.5 cents. The company cites federal energy administration rules authorizing cost recovery.
San Francisco Mayor Joseph Alioto agrees to a court order granting his estranged wife sole occupancy of their Presidio Terrace house and to refrain from disturbing her. He has stayed with his daughter since marriage dissolution papers were served.
Australian Ambassador Sir Patrick Shaw says Washington is obsessed with Congress and columnists and will travel more. He notes wealth lies beyond D.C. as he tours Cincinnati Indianapolis and Louisville on a Washington Getaway.

Ohio lottery backers face criticism as three $300,000 winners encounter legal trouble. Joseph Brown received up to 15 years for burglary and vandalism. William Culver Jr after winning 300,000 faced a 16 year back child support claim exceeding 40,000. Cassius Yoakum, another 300,000 winner, was arrested for driving while intoxicated the next day.

Mack confirms the shutdown as the new anti-lock braking system mandate takes effect.
The Marx Brothers film Animal Crackers will be shown today and Sunday at 2 and 8 p.m. at the Towne and Country Regional Art Center. The French Club at St. Paul High School sponsors a spaghetti and meatball dinner Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at St. Paul Elementary School cafeteria. He accepted a police science professor role at Terra Technical College in Fremont after a brief transition with successor Melvin Shipley. Krogh plans to teach police topics while enjoying home projects like a grandfather clock.
Gary Hicks walked out of Norwalk High School after discovering a 342 day pay dock for six absences. He did not join the local teachers association limiting eligibility for free legal defense. Principal Perry reportedly said Hicks would not be rehired, and Hicks plans to fight to keep his job.
