Nixon Says Paris Peace Talks to Resume July 13
President Nixon announced talks with North Vietnam would restart in Paris on July 13 with a goal of ending the war within seven months if negotiations proceed seriously. He argued the past seven weeks of bombing and mining helped bring the Communists to the table, and pledged an internationally supervised cease fire and total U.S. withdrawal within four months as bargaining terms. He defended not breaking up a potential Agnew ticket and said the war is largely over for most Americans due to reduced spending and troop levels.
