Trucker Explosion Kills Six in Poconos Route 209 Blast

A tractor trailer carrying dynamite burst into flames and exploded on Route 209 near Middle Smithfield in the Delaware Water Gap area. Six people died including three Marshalls Creek volunteers and a 23-year-old teacher. ten were injured. The blast leveled a snake farm and rattled Stroudsburg.

Where's Woods? Akron Nursing Home Operator Faces Trial

The trial of nursing home operator Eugene Woods was set in municipal court but expected in absentia. Woods and aide Angela Mahl are charged with running an unlicensed nursing home at an Akron hotel. Woods, arraigned last April, has been missing since release on $500 bond, with warrants for non payment of wages filed after his release.

Sailors Join Hunt For Missing Civil Rights Workers

White hat sailors and FBI agents scoured back country roads near Philadelphia Mississippi for five days in a large search area. Teams of 5 to 15 men were dropped along rural routes paralleling roads hoping for traces of the three missing civil rights workers. Their burned station wagon was found on a logger’s trail near a swamp as sailors arrived by order of President Johnson to assist in the search.

Quakes Rattle New Hampshire Area

Two earthquake shocks, 50 minutes apart, rattled central New Hampshire from Laconia to Concord. The temblors, about 60 miles north of Boston, were felt in a 50 mile arc with no injuries or major damage reported.
