Woman shoots Carlisle Police Chief then barricades apartment
Brenda Loafland a former Carlisle officer was arrested after shooting Police Chief Robert Reichard and barricading in a Warren County apartment building. Reichard was treated for chest and shoulder wounds and is in fair condition at Middletown Hospital. Authorities surrounded the building as deputies and city police closed in.

A 3000 gallon naptha discharge by striking workers at Patch Rubber Co triggered explosions in Akron sewers, blasting streets and breaking crypts at Glendale Cemetery. Authorities evacuated about 75 residents as water and gas mains were damaged and manhole covers flew into the air.
