Saudi oil minister Sheikh Ahmed Zaki Yamani told the Shippers Council Conference in London that Saudi Arabia could raise production next month by up to 1 million barrels per day to 9.5 million, but only if consuming nations cut demand. he warned there can be no progress while a multi tiered pricing system and energy demand remain unbalanced. He attributed the global energy crisis to overuse of oil and underuse of coal, urging balanced production with reserves and cautioned oil is forecast to last 38 years versus coal 238 years.
