Mahaffey Aims to Prove Self in U S Open Battle
John Mahaffey holds a two shot lead into the third round of the U S Open at Highlands Course near Atlanta after a 68 Friday. He seeks redemption for last year when he let the Open slip away in Medinah and vows to play aggressively to capture the title. Al Geiberger trails one back at 139 as Ben Crenshaw also carded a 68 while Mike Reid, BYU, flounders with 81 after a 67 opening round.
