Baby Born On Los Angeles Freeway During Traffic Jam

Henry Cavanaugh raced to County General Hospital with his wife Tina and delivered an 8 pound 6 3/4 ounce son after a car crash on the freeway. The Blancos from Azusa helped deliver the baby and transport mother and child to the hospital. Both mother and baby were reported in good condition.

Thieves Charged in Bellevue Grand Larceny Case

Two New York men Charles C. Sigl and Ormand F. Sigl are held on 5000 bond each in Huron County Jail awaiting a July 11 Bellevue Municipal Court hearing on grand larceny charges. They allegedly stole 949 from Leonard's Pharmacy and a tar spill caused 40 damage.

Rights Bill OK To Come Today

The Senate moved toward overwhelming passage of a major civil rights bill the strongest since Reconstruction. It would end discrimination in voting schools employment unions public places private enterprises serving the public and in federal funding. Leaders spoke of broad support with an expected vote around 4 or 5 p m EDT. Senator Humphrey predicted 77 to 78 allies while Dirksen pegged near total approval. Goldwater said he would vote against it on constitutional grounds regarding fair employment and access to private facilities.

Rendlen children win reversal on custody ruling

The Sixth District Court of Appeals reversed a Huron County Juvenile Court decision giving permanent custody of six Norwalk children to the Welfare Department. A new neglect hearing is ordered for Carl and Brenda Rendlen to prove they are fit to have care and custody as the six children remain in foster homes. The court found no clear evidence the mother is unfit or that the father cannot provide a suitable home and care.

Illegitimacy Shows Startling Gain in Huron County

Editor notes a sharp rise in illegitimate births in Huron County from 1950 to 1962, tripling the rate while state and national rates rose less dramatically. Data show 1.02% of births in 1950 and 2.95% in 1962, with county homes in Cleveland Toledo and Columbus handling many cases. AFDC figures indicate 25.5 percent of county families with illegitimate children receive aid, prompting officials to call the rate "pretty high."
