California Trooper Halts Runaway Truck
California Highway Patrol sergeant stopped a brakeless 2 1/2 ton truck loaded with 1000 gallons after it sped about seven miles at over 90 mph. Driver Ron Koch and helper Lester Stuck emerged shaken. A public meeting on rural water authority is set for 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Community Hall.

Sheriff John Borgia said correction deputies jailers and dispatchers under CETA must work 48 hours weekly before overtime or compensatory time applies. The Reflector had wrongly stated a 40 hour threshold. Nearly all sheriff's department staff are covered except two courthouse secretaries.
