Arab governments reportedly split on all-out sanctions against the United States and Britain amid fears of a blowback. Some leaders seek time to assess the aftermath of the Israeli Arab war while others push for revenge.
Sen. Thomas J. Dodd denied point by point charges of financial wrongdoing while supporters promised dramatic new evidence to stave a potential Senate rebuke. Russell Long, a top Democratic leader, prepared to reveal fresh materials aimed at saving the Connecticut senator from becoming the sixth in history censured by the chamber.
About 10,000 Local 18 Operating Engineers across Ohio resume work after secret ballot approval of a wage offer from the Ohio Contractors Association. The five year package raises wages by 52 to 87 percent, with a $2.80 hourly boost, potentially delaying completion of the Route 20 Bypass project until July 1968.
A Tuesday fire in the Norwalk power plant disrupted electrical service as eight of nine circuits were shut down. Plant Supt. Donald Davis credited fireman Edward W. Haas and an on duty engineer for quickly reducing power and containing the blaze in the coal feeding system of a boiler. Davis noted a possible boiler damage but planned an investigation into the cause, suggesting coal dust ignition from a leak near the stoker amid high power demand.
The Berlin and Milan High Schools may consolidate under one roof as early as next fall pending board discussion in Milan. Superintendent Lindecamp says no definite plan exists though proposals from citizens may surface. Officials weigh best building, space, and scheduling impacts amid prior bond defeats and a 1965 merger of districts.
United Buckingham Freight Lines of Spokane Washington filed with the Interstate Commerce Commission to acquire Nortruk Corporation of Delaware and thereby gain control of Norwalk Truck Lines. The deal, announced for mid May, awaits ICC approval and publication in the Federal Register.
Wellesley College student Christine Jones attended Princeton University’s commencement in cap and gown among 1,287 graduates. President Robert Goheen noted the visible coeducation moment as he paused mid sentence to remark on the lone female in the undergraduate line.
President Johnson signed a law restoring a 7 percent tax credit for business expenditures on plant expansion and equipment. The measure also allows a tax writeoff plan for depreciation of new investments and aids corporate investment.

Six teaching positions are needed to complete Norwalk City Schools staff for next fall, not counting four specialized vacancies. Dr. S R Corbin says the six posts would yield 126 teachers, 20 fewer than 1966 67. He outlines needs including four high school posts and notes uncertainty about filling an auto mechanics instructor.
Nor walk City School officials expect a new superintendent within two weeks after Dr S R Corbin resigning to join the state department Board President Dr William B Holman said interviews will occur Thursday Friday and Saturday with top candidates called back for further talks. A replacement for Clerk Joseph Williamson who also resigned may be found within a week.
