New St. Pauls Principal Named
The Rev. Michael Ricker, former assistant pastor at St. Pauls Catholic Church, is named principal of St. Paul High School replacing Rev. James Steinle who becomes an instructor at Toledo Central Catholic High School. Announcement came from bishop Most Rev. George J. Behring of the Toledo diocese. Steinle has led St. Pauls since October 1960 and will attend Toledo University summer school as his leaving date is set.

Mantkears Seeks Jail Admission After Compulsion Claim
A rural New London resident told Huron County Sheriff John Borgia he felt a compulsion to kill a woman and a baby and requested jail. The unnamed man had been released recently from the Tiffin State Hospital. The probate court was to review his condition but took no action. His brother planned a voluntary re commitment to the hospital.

Four Boys Drown in Farm Pond Near Whittlesey Ave
Dennis Vaughan 11 and Steven Vaughan 8 drowned Thursday afternoon in a pond behind the L and M Poultry Farm after their cousins Michael Ward 11 and Gary Ward 9 swam with them. Dennis was rescued by James Sigler and died after 45 minutes of resuscitation. Steven’s body was later recovered by Officer Denver Houser. The Ward and Vaughan families, plus police and fire crews, responded as investigators noted water in the high fifties and weeds two feet tall.
