Spelling Bee Winner Peg McCarthy Captures Top Honors
Peg McCarthy a 13 year old from Topeka Kansas won the National Spelling Bee with flawless reads and 106 finalists spelling horrors and words like horripilation to capture a thousand dollar prize and a trophy. Lyn Sue Kahng placed runner up and the two stood alone as the final rounds ended. The contest sponsored by Scripps Howard and local papers featured 22 finalists with many misspellings noted and corrected in the final rounds.

NTA Elects Officers Shifts in Norwalk Teachers Union leadership
Christie Patton a sixth grade Pleasant Elementary teacher was re elected president of the Norwalk Teachers Association for a second one year term. Scott Ford a Bronson Elementary fourth grade teacher and former treasurer was named vice president and John Horrigan a Bronson sixth grade teacher will replace Ford as treasurer. Debbie Seaman a Benedict Elementary first grade teacher was elected secretary. All races were contested. A Browning Ferris Industries driver in Sandusky injured a finger at Janesville Products while assembling a compactor. Donald Miller of Monroeville admitted to Fisher Titus Memorial Hospital in satisfactory condition after sustaining the finger injury between a compactor and yard box.
