Local injuries from multiple accidents near Wakeman

At Fisher Titus Memorial Hospital Saturday and Sunday several people from Ohio towns were treated. Rodney Day age five and Deborah Day age three from Norwalk were admitted after drinking a small amount of unknown liquid. Anthony DeCaro age 35 of Shawmill Road was treated for a nose injury from a baseball at Edison Park Milan. Eleanor Scheid age 55 of Willard was treated for a spider bite. Priscilla Brege age 21 of New London and Joseph Simms age 23 of Mansfield were treated for injuries from an automobile accident. Linda Sherwood age 12 of Wakeman and Louise Sherwood age 17 of Wakeman were admitted after a Sunday automobile crash on Exchange Road. Louise lost control on a hill, car skidded into a creek bank. Mary Ann Sherwood age 14 was a passenger. No charges were filed by the State Highway Patrol.

Monroeville BPA and village council set 8 p.m. meeting

A special Monroeville meeting of the Board of Public Affairs and village council is planned for 8 p.m. Wednesday to discuss village employee salaries and fringe benefits. Richard Wingate noted hospitalization and sick leave had been raised six months ago with no action, and the board received resignations from Joseph Gravenhorst without action.

1965 Ford Stolen From Fitchville Driveway

Jill McCullough reported a 1965 white Ford missing from the driveway of her brother William’s Route 250 home in Fitchville. The car bearing license XJ 5655 had keys left in it and was registered to Charles McCullough. The theft was reported to the Huron County Sheriff’s Department.

Sermon at Norwalk High Baccalaureate Service

The Rev Haldon Robarge pastor of St Peter Lutheran Church delivered Think On These Things at the Norwalk High School baccalaureate. Rev Paul Bailey of First United Methodist led responsive Bible reading. Robarge urged peace and security come only through God and Jesus Christ.

False alarms haunt SA C missing aircraft search

In Juneau Alaska UPI reports multiple false alarms in the hunt for a Strategic Air Command plane missing with 19 aboard. Coast Guard said orange objects sighted were crab floats, not life rafts, keeping the search fruitless. In Subic Bay Philippines the Melbourne nearly collided with another vessel three days before striking the USS Frank E Evans, killing 74 sailors.

Robert Taylor Dies After Cancer Battle in California

Santa Monica Calif UPI reports actor Robert Taylor died at St. John's Hospital at 10 30 a m after terminal cancer ended his October operation for removal of a cancerous lung. He had vowed to beat the disease and quit his three pack a day cigarette habit. He was 57.

Economy Shows Signs of Cooling as May Employment Slows

UPI reports May total employment rose modestly for the third straight month while the jobless rate held at 3.5 percent. Non farm employment hovered near 73.3 million with overall jobs at 77.2 million. manufacturing work week stayed at 40.8 hours.

Gas Station Robbery Near Bellevue Allegedly Value

An overnight Gastown Station robbery at Routes 4 and 20 near Bellevue netted $160. Attendant Robert Schneider reported a young man with a pistol ordered him to open the register and move aside. The suspect fled south in a car not described.

Vermilion Man Charged In Death Of 18 Year Old Girl

John T. Cody of Vermilion was charged with first degree murder in the death of Gladys May Nelson, 18, of Lorain. Police say Cody lost control on State Route 113 east of Cable Road, struck a tree at 3:35 Sunday, and body found near the crash. Cody is hospitalized in fair condition at Good Samaritan Hospital.
