Reports say a Friday ruling is likely on whether to retry Dr. Sam Sheppard for the 12 year old bludgeon slaying of his wife. The case remains a major legal matter with potential new proceedings.
In Greenhithe England a UPI report says scientists sent to study a meteorite crash found the object was junk from a scrap metal crane after examining a bedroom ceiling.
Early today Norwalk State Patrol issued three citations after two crashes. A motorcycle car collision on U S 20 near Old State Road involved Huntz Gregory and Paul Linder with injuries to Gregory and both drivers cited. A second crash on U S 20 and Ohio 4 near Bellevue led to a citation for Dennis Laub for improper left turn while Beal and Laub avoided injuries and sustained moderate vehicle damage.
James H. McBride former Norwalk City Schools superintendent and Amherst Schools leader is appointed director of the Tri-County Campus serving Huron Erie and Ottawa counties at Bowling Green State University He will assume duties July 7 and will hold the title of assistant professor of education.
Applications for EHOVE vocational school district superintendent total ten with two from current district leaders. Others include Penta County administrators and college-recommended candidates. An Administrative Advisory Committee will screen for two weeks before top three face EHOVE board interviews. A vocational director vacancy has one applicant so far.
The Berlin Heights Board of Education authorized the clerk to obtain options on two tracts east of Milan as potential sites for a new Berlin-Milan High School. The 100 acre Williams property and an 80 acre Livengood parcel were identified by a board committee with the Erie Regional Planning Commission. Both sites are near the district’s population center and water facilities are under review. Final site choice hinges on water availability, tests, and other factors with possible Milan mailing addresses if selected.
Norwalk Civil Service Commission member Louis Thill faces invalid appointment per City Solicitor Frederick F Waugh. Thill and fellow appointees Free man and Buki declare party affiliations. law limits to two same party members. Finch asserted Buki’s Democrat status at appointment. Thill expected to resign. examinations and appointments occurred during Thill’s tenure.
One hundred sixty eight students received diplomas at Norwalk High School 106th commencement. Dr. Alfred B. Bonds Jr of Baldwin Wallace College delivered a folksy address urging dedication and service. The ceremony opened with a diploma being presented to Roger Olsen Wilkinson.
Phil May of Consumer Sales and Robert Landenberg signed papers Wednesday to merge their firms, creating May's and Ideal Appliance Center Inc. The new center will operate at 58 E Monroe St while the Ideal Service office on Old State Road closes within a week. The partners say the merger aims to improve service and expand product lines.
