Norwalk High Students Swap Exams for Community Projects
Norwalk High School social studies students under John Muth completed projects this year instead of final exams. Projects included surveys for the Open Spaces Committee, a health program for educable mentally retarded students, and a cleanup on Hogan's Hill. Some efforts, like the hill cleanup, faced setbacks as garbage was hidden again after city awareness. A computer survey on alumni outcomes and a balloting program for student council elections were also created, with several art pieces donated to teachers for next year. A vandalism incident at Memorial Lake Club House caused damage to fire extinguishers and drawers before police investigated.

Huron County Commissioners on Monday said a decision for placing a half mill mental health levy on the November ballot has not been made. The 648 Board seeks about $98 000 yearly, replacing current funding from a 0 4 mill health levy and state funds. Memorial Day and a hospital absence delayed talks. Commissioner Smith was hospitalized for tests but listed in satisfactory condition. The panel plans a later week update on a separate off street parking lease on Seminary Street for about 35 vehicles with Kenneth E Conway involved.
