A Cuban fled Havana inside a front wheel compartment of an Iberia DC8 bound for Madrid. A companion fell out during the eight hour flight. Armando Socarras Ramirez, 22, survived after being treated for exposure in a Madrid hospital. officials call the escape impossible.
In Canterbury a man places a cheeky newspaper ad offering his wife Marie for sale citing a cramped car as the reason. The notice lists car details for 1963 MGB and a wife at 1944 with measurements and price.
Shirley 15 and Mary 13 Pelham left Atlanta May 28 with 35 cents each bound for school and arrived in Saigon to see their civilian worker father, a mystery to their mother. Norwalk City Council rezoned 24 acres for new apartments amid a heated battle between builders and homeowners. The 6-0 vote covered Parsons Avenue eight acres and 5-1 for 16 acres along Norwood Avenue and Elm Street. Residents feared devaluation, traffic, and sewer strain, yet supporters argued apartments would boost tax revenue and attract people. Contractors Sofios and Kinney pledged cautious development with about 148 units, while opposition pressed for retention of R-1 zoning.

John W. Brown, 42, is charged by a Grand Jury with first degree murder in the April 25 Bellevue death of 26 year old William Famulare. Brown turned himself in after his body was found. motive not disclosed amid rumored strain with Brown's estranged wife. A second indictment charged John Yocum, 23, with larceny by trick for $94 paid for dishes not delivered.
The UPI report recalls the Evans disaster near South China Sea after a collision with the Australian carrier Melbourne. U.S. Navy holds memorial services on the Kearsarge as 74 dead are tallied, including three Nebraska brothers and a Costa Mesa father son pair.
Gerald E. Amerine, a former Norwalk area resident now living in West Mansfield, was killed Monday when his semi-trailer crashed in Battle Creek, Michigan. Funeral plans are delayed while four sons in military service return home. He is survived by his wife Mabel, five sons including Larry in Vietnam and Gregory in Okinawa, three daughters, and siblings including Leroy Amerine of New London.
A 2,800 square foot warehouse is to be built at Firelands Industrial Park on Route 18 and Old State Road. Phil Leak of 180 St Marys Street filed the building permit this morning. Contractor Janetta and Herner to construct a cement block and steel structure valued at $30,000.
The Defense Department identified three Ohioans among the 73 missing crew of the U S S Frank E Evans after slicing in half by the Australian carrier Melbourne. They are Seaman Apprentice James Fred Dykes III of Lancaster Sonar Surface Technician 3c Larry Allan Gracely of Lima and Seaman Recruit John Allan Sauvey of Marblehead.
