Mrs. Charles Hommel of North Fairfield reported thefts from her home after a vacation in Washington. A pair of size 32 American Legion pants and other items were stolen since late June. Huron County Sheriff aided by North Fairfield Police in the investigation.
Administration sources say 5000 additional U.S. troops will be in South Viet Nam within three months with full build up in six months. Rear guard contingents will enter later as the operation continues.

California Senator Clair Engle died in Washington at 3 a.m. EDT, 11 months after brain tumor surgery. A 21 year House veteran and 16 year Senator, he had planned to run again but bowled out of the Democratic primary. Pierre Salinger won the nomination to Engle's seat.
State estimates place Huron County at 50 088 as of Jan 1 1964 and Norwalk at 14 026 with Willard at 5 714. Erie County totals 74 098 led by Sandusky 32 989 Huron 6 292 Vermilion 3 792. Cleveland remains largest city at 863 755, Columbus 511 637. A paraglider tests at Edwards AFB for Gemini recovery.
Beijing informed Moscow it will not attend any international meeting or preparatory session aiming to divide the world Communist movement.
