Residents Seek Court to Keep Rheba Bennett Elementary Open

Two Willard residents George Henderson and Betty Weaver filed in Huron County Common Pleas Court to halt the Willard Board of Education from closing Rheba Bennett Elementary. The board voted 5 to 1 on June 5 to close due to declining enrollment to save money and approved a one year lease for the building with Erie-Huron County Community Action Center for 2400 dollars. The suit seeks temporary restraining and injunctions and a declaratory judgment finding the board action illegal and asks the court to order the school open for grades one through five for the coming year with an immediate trial requested as school begins in 5 to 8 weeks. Attorney Ronald Freeman represents Henderson and Weaver.
